Always a minute late and a dollar short, I was going to tell you about the Forever the Sickest Kids NYC AP tour show, this Friday at the Fillmore East Irving Plaza. (breathe, I didn't miss any brands did I?) . Alas, by the time I sat down at my computer the show was sold out as FTSK, the Matches, All Time Low and the Rocket Summer have been doing since day one of the tour.
We'll be back next week with all the details for those of you shut out. in the mean time tale a peak at FTSK's new Battle of the Bands cartoon on their official myspace page
22 days left until their debut release Underdog Alma Mater. For those of you who also seem to find themselves late to the party as, make sure to cop your tickets NOW for Bamboozle and the Warped tour. Those will be your last chances to see Forever the Sickest Kids return to New York and your local area before tour season comes to a close...

Are you a MAE fan, then this is for YOU!
What’s cooler than to check out a band you’ve just heard of, and walk out of the show feeling like you’re at the forefront of the next big thing? That was the sentiment buzzing around the Between The Trees show at Irving Plaza last night. The young Orlando based 5 piece made believers out of a packed house of MAE fans, not an easy fete.
To meet them is even more to love them. Down to earth, fun and BURSTING with energy they are ready to take on the world of rock; from their upcoming debut album straight through a coveted spot on this years Warped Tour. They’re genuinely excited about their future, willing to travel the country with 8 people packed one on top of the other in a van (although they’d REALLY like a tour bus sometime in the near future).
What’s even more important as they develop their following? They’re accessible! A concept seemingly now lost on many, these guys live for their fans and still recognize just how valuable they really are. You can easily find them after every show, checking out MAE’s set in the back of the venue or over at their merch booth taking cash and signing autographs.
Their live show is a powerhouse of indie-pop/rock tunes. Stand out track of the night was “The Way She Feels”; an emotionally wrenching track written by the boys for their friend Rene, the millions of Americans who suffer from depression, addiction, self injury and suicide and the cause helping to battle it all: To Write Love On Her Arms. TWLOHA is a very unique and inspiring non-for-profit organization started after BTT’s friend Rene was denied entry to a treatment facility while battling the demons of depression, self mutilation and drug addition. Their goal is to “encourage, inform, inspire and also invest directly into treatment and recovery”.
Definitely do not miss Between The Trees as they wrap up their tour with MAE, or on Warped this summer. Debut album “The Story and the Song” in stores May 20th.

Headed to Texas this week?
Being from Ohio myself I have a bit of a weak spot for Cleveland-based
magazine, Alternative Press. Always ahead of the curve, AP's put
together a free showcase at next weeks famed SXSW featuring the 100
Bands You Need to Know in 2008.
The lineup includes The Rocket Summer, All Time Low, The Matches, Sonny and Forever The Sickest Kids. Okay, so it's SXSW and virtually everything is free (so to speak); either you get random e-mail invites, laminates show up in your mailbox or your company back in New York or LA is paying for it (the music business hasn't gone all bad kids).
But AP has really gone out of their way to make their showcase accessible to all. No badges, RSVP's, or fancy laminates required, and I've been told to get there early to cop some free swag from the many sponsors (Rockstar Energy Drink, the very cool Keep-A-Breast Foundation supporting breast cancer awareness through the arts, and Forever The Sickest Kids' favorites Glamor Kills clothing and Hot Topic).
What's better than an afternoon filled with free music? Very few things I say, trumped only by being the first on your block "in the know" about AP's picks for this years greatest bands.

Sex, Drugs and Movie references
Movie Heroes are the pop culture flavor of the moment right now; from
Soulja Boy's love for Superman, Forever The Sickest Kids' tribute to
Will Smith and the Men In Black, to one of my personal favorites,
Robocop --as referenced on Be Your Own Pet's upcoming release Get
Awkward.
As if to be Clarence Boddicker when he disrupts the coke party, Be Your Own Pet titles one of their songs "Bitches Leave". The song goes; "Things aren't pretty in New Detroit, so go ahead and get to the point".
Any of you who've seen Robocop will hopefully appreciate the reference. With all the pop movie and TV references in music at the moment, Be Your Own Pet's Jemina comes out on record admitting she turns to movies for help in songwriting.
This makes me wonder, is"The Kelly Affair" in some way an ode to Kelly Kapowski? "Everybody here wants to party all the time" can be seen as vague reference to Zach Morris and crew at Bayside High... "everybody here has sex on their minds".
Do I even need to explain how this relates with all the relationship flip-flopping that went down through the series? And finally, "everybody here is popping pills". Okay, so Jessie Spano was really the only one popping pills on the show, but who doesn't remember that episode? "I'm so exciteddddddddddd, I'm so....scarrrrrrrrrrrrred", you can still see her break down right before her record label showcase, right?
Jemina and the Be Your Own Pet crew are back on the road after a studio hiatus, and primed for their stop at SXSW:
